Transport and Communications Minister Plamen Petrov expressed a hope that the work on the construction of the second bridge over the Danube will be completed by 2006. He said at a talk show in the Bulgarian National Radio that Bulgaria also should develop other projects, such as a trunk road and a railway, which will ensure that Sofia and the bridge are connected without any bottlenecks. Petrov said that the situation is especially bad in the section between Mezdra and Vidin. The transport minister said that 92m euros are needed to ensure that vehicles can travel at higher speed along this road, that heavy-duty trucks can pass too, to electrify the rail tracks and install communication equipment. Petrov said that there is a certain delay on the project of the second Danubian bridge but that there is already clear progress from the Romanian side. `I hope that from now on things will run smoothly and on time,` Petrov said.
