Legendary Alberto Tomba Opens Ski Season in Bulgarian Resort

Legendary Italian skier Alberto Tomba opened the new ski season in the Bulgarian winter resort of Bansko, situated in Southwestern Bulgaria at the foothills of one of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains - Pirin. Tomba visited a home for mentally ill children.

President Parvanov, Transport Minister Nikolay Vassilev, Environment Minister Dolores Arsenova attended the ceremony.

Alberto Tomba assisted Deputy Prime Minister Lidia Shuleva in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the resort's new ski lift. He welcomed the citizens and guests of the town with "Good evening" in Bulgarian.

Alberto Tomba arrived in Sofia on Friday with a flight from Milan.

His first visit to Bulgaria was nineteen years ago.
