Bulgaria's Deputy FinMin "Withdraws within Weeks"

Politics | December 5, 2003, Friday // 00:00

In the next few weeks I will withdraw from the post of Bulgarian deputy finance minister, Krassimir Katev said on Friday, confirming once again the decision he had announced before.

Katev and the country's Finance Minister Milen Velchev have done a lot of interviews and, in Katev's opinion, have found the most appropriate person to take up the vacant place. Katev, however, declined to reveal the name of the approved candidate, until Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg greenlights the new appointment.

When asked about his future plans, Katev said that he intended to carry out some projects in Bulgaria.

He also explained that is was very possible that he withdrew from the post before January 1 2004, but added that it all depended on the decision of the prime minister.

In August, the Finance Ministry announced that Katev was planning to resign towards the end of the year. As reasons for his oncoming departure, he pointed out that he did not see any more challenges in his work, as during the last two years he had achieved 90% of the goals set for the whole tenure. He also underlined that he was not resigning, he was just withdrawing from the post earlier.
