Bulgarian Captain Stands Trial in France on Pollution Charges

The captain of the Bulgarian ship Dobrudzha, which was arrested in France end-July on pollution charges, will stand trial in Brest on Tuesday.

The trial will start at 1.30 p.m., captain Yordan Golemanov, said.

A ship captain, who has caused water pollution, could be fined up to EUR 600,000 and a ship owner - EUR 3.0 M under French law.

French authorities say that Dobrudzha polluted a spot of the Gulf of Gascogne as long as 7km and 700m wide.
