Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov came into an odd competition with football megastar Dimitar Berbatov as local Club M magazine announced its nominations for the traditional Man of the Year Award.

The president's other rivals from the political spectrum are Foreign Minister Solomon Passy and Finance Minister Milen Velchev, Club M publisher Hristo Peev revealed Friday. Those nominees will also compete against sensation-making journalist Georgi Koritarov and Plamen Markov, coach of Bulgaria's national football team.

The ceremony for awarding the Man of the Year prize has been an attractive and long anticipated event in Bulgaria each year. So far winners of the award include some of the country's most popular artists, influential journalists, nation-wide celebrated sportsmen and successful politicians.
