`The Bulgarian Telecommunications Company /BTC/ expects BGN 1 bln revenues for 2001,` the company`s CEO, Ivan Spasov, said in Varna. `In order to remain competitive after the revocation of its monopoly after January 1, 2003, BTC will draw up an ambitious programme in the field of marketing and technological development,` Spasov stated at the national conference, `Telecom 2001`. According to him, a special attention will be paid to the large and the corporate clients. BGN 400 M will be invested in the digitalization of the fixed network by June, 2002. Most probably a credit will be sought for completing the ambitious programme. Digital phones will be offered mainly to the business subscribers. The freed analogue telephones numbers will be transferred to the household subscribers. Currently, 200,000 people are waiting for telephones. By 2003, their number will be reduced to 70,000 at most. Some of the other future plans of BTC include applying for a mobile operator license and for a cable operator license. BTC will strive to become one of the most powerful providers of Internet services in Bulgaria. Its subsidiary, BTC-Net, will continue to expand and will probably show interest in buying or taking over developed Internet companies in Bulgaria.
