US- Bulgarian diplomatic relations mark 100th anniversary on September 19. The diplomatic relations between the two countries began September 19 1903 when the first US ambassador to Bulgaria John Jackson handed in his accreditations to Bulgaria's royal prince Ferdinand. Bulgaria has had envoys in US since 1914.

Three-days celebrations marking the 100th anniversary were launched September 17 when the "topping-off" ceremony at the new US Embassy compound in Sofia district of Lozenets officially marked the halfway point in the construction of the new building.

A historical document exhibition was opened Thursday at the National Library in Sofia. Later in the day Bulgaria's President Parvanov awarded six former US Ambassadors to Bulgaria with jubilee medals on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of US-Bulgarian diplomatic relations.

On Friday a discussion on the topic of 100th anniversary of the US-Bulgarian diplomatic relations will be held and President Parvanov will deliver a speech. Bulgaria's Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg will also attend the meeting. The three-day celebrations will end September 19 with a concert at the National Theatre.
