Bulgaria's capital Sofia started celebrations of September 17 St Sofia Day, also the date when the Orthodox world pays homage to the three biblical sisters Faith, Hope and Love.

A special mass was served in the St Sofia church in the center of the city to mark the occasion. Famous film composer Goran Bregovic, whose music has been widely enjoyed in Bulgaria and the whole south European region, will give a concert at the end of the day to warm up the celebrations.

The city's Municipal Council will also hold the traditional ceremony to hoist the flag of Sofia.
