UN Distributes Food in Ravaged Liberian Capital

United Nations (UN) agencies prepare to distribute desperately needed food in the starving Liberian capital as a second batch of troops was due to arrive to reinforce a Nigerian-led peacekeeping force. Gregory Blamoh, national officer for the UN World Food Program, said food distribution would start at five sites in Monrovia. It has been besieged by rebels for more than two months leaving some 450,000 people living on the edge. The insurgents held the port, the gateway for food and other essential supplies for three weeks.
