President Fixes Bulgarian Poll Date, Okays Amended Electoral Act

Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov issued a decree to promulgate crucial amendments to the Electoral Act. He also fixed the date of the oncoming municipal and mayoral elections for October 26.

Earlier in the day, representatives of all floor groups in Bulgaria's Parliament signed political agreement to share out the seats at the Central Electoral Commission.

The agreement allows ten representatives of Bulgaria's ruling Simeon II National Movement (SIINM). Leftist Coalition for Bulgaria and the United Democratic Forces will have four representatives each, junior coalition partner of the ruling party -- Movement for Rights and Freedoms -- gets two seats and the National Ideal for Unity - one.
