Serbian police have shot dead two of the top suspects in the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic as they were resisting arrest late on Thursday night in a Belgrade suburb, BBC reported citing a statement of the Interior Ministry.
The two, named as Dusan Spasojevic and Milan Lukovic, were allegedly leaders of the mafia-linked Zemun Clan.
None of the arresting officers have been injured.
A day earlier Serbian police arrested 15 members of an elite unit suspected of involvement in the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic two weeks ago.
The detainees are all members of the 300-strong Unit for Special Operations (JSO), which was disbanded on Wednesday on the orders of the Serbian Government, the Associated Press news agency reported.
Zvezdan Jovanovic was detained earlier in the week on suspicion of carrying out the assassination.
