Bulgaria: Maya Manolova: Borissov Wants to Stay in Power for Life

Boyko Borissov insists on convening the Grand National Assembly to remain prime minister for life, wrote leader of "Stand up.bg" Maya Manolova on Facebook commenting on the today's proposal of the Prime Minister to convene the Grand National Assembly.

In her words, it‘s the second time that Borissov uses the Constitution as a means for him to stay in power.

According to her, Borissov never understood that in order to initiate a procedure for the adoption of a new Constitution, there must be a constitutional draft.

There will be constitutional debate and judicial reform, but whether it will require convening the Grand National Assembly will decide the parties of protest, who are the first political force now, Manolova was adamant. She pointed out that this time the debate will be with experts, and it will will not "be written by a bunch of scatterbrains overnight."

Manolova stressed that Borisov is no longer in a position to set the agenda of either the state or parliament. In these elections, the people showed Borisov a "red card", she pointed out.

In her words, when he implements the constitutional procedure and submits a cabinet proposal,it will become clear that he is in complete isolation and no one wants him to be prime minister anymore.

She reminded that according to the constitutional procedure if Borisov fails to form a cabinet, the mandate will be handed to the second political force, i.e. Slavi Trifonov.

Manolova stressed that for "Stand Up.BG" natural partners are both the party of Slavi Trifonov and "Democratic Bulgaria".

"We will be parliamentary ombudsman and whether Borisov likes it or not, it is not decided by him. We will support small and microbusinesses hit by the pandemic, solve problems of the self-insured and households. We will propose the important laws - on private bankruptcy, limiting collector companies, and effective waste management, as well as deal with the health system crisis", she promised.
