Kovachevitsa is situated southwestern corner of the Rhodopes. All of the old houses are built from stone and wood and the architecture tradition is preserved in nowadays buildings.
The town many times has been a stage for shooting of some of the most legendaries historical Bulgarian movies. In 1977 the village was announced a national architectural and historical reservation.
Kovachevitza has around 50 dwellers and many celebrities from the Bulgarian cultural life own villas there.
The settlement is about 1050 above sea level, the climate is moderate with mild winter and cool summer guaranteed by the numerous coniferous forests.
