NATO Expects Warning Before Strike on Iraq

NATO Secretary General, Lord George Robertson should be warned about the start of the conflict in Iraq, AFP reported, quoting anonymous source from the pact.

The alliance will not participate directly in the war, but will guarantee the security of Ankara and its defense in case of eventual attack from Iraq.

NATO was thrown into an unprecedented crisis last month when three countries - France, Germany and Belgium - refused a US request to send AWACS planes, Patriot anti-missile batteries and chemical and biological weapons units to Turkey.
