Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
Although the promotion of patronage in the field of culture in Bulgaria is regulated by the Law on Patronage and the Law for the National Chitalishta, a precise mechanism for financing the culture by private and legal persons has not yet been developed. This is one of the findings and one of the problems that should be addressed according to the published draft Strategy for the Development of Bulgarian Culture in the period 2019 - 2029. Therefore, art now relies heavily on state funding.
The strategy was published on the website of the Council of Ministers on 5 March and it was often referred to by the Minister of Culture Boil Banov on the occasion of the Court of Auditors' report, which found drastic gaps in the preservation of the immovable monuments of culture. It highlights the main priorities, strategic goals and activities to work on over the next 10 years.
Among the goals of the strategy is also the actual implementation of the 10% deduction for the National Culture Fund provided in the Gambling Act. As well as changes in the legislation that will lead to the maximum funding of Bulgarian cinema by the state under the Film Industry Act.
The Law on the Protection and Development of Culture and the Law on the Creative Funds, which came into force in 1973, also need updating. Among the main priorities are the formation of market-oriented behavior of cultural institutions and artists.
