There is a growing number of dangerous toys on the Bulgarian market. Data is available from the State Agency for Metrology and Technical Surveillance. In the vast variety of products, it is increasingly difficult to recognize health risks. For 2018, nearly 40% of all checked goods in Bulgaria were potentially dangerous.

The most dangerous goods are without instruction for use or they do not meet the manufacturer's or break easily. They may also make sounds too strong for children's hearing. Over the last year, over 65 types of toys have been taken away from the market.

"It is very easy to separate these things - hands, legs, this can cause suffocation when it is swallowed," added bTV Miroslav Yotov of the State Agency for Metrology and Technical Surveillance

Upon purchase, parental control is required.

The experts' advice is to see if this toy has a manual for use in Bulgarian and the relevant warning texts, and let's still look at there being a listed manufacturer and importer.

Sanctions for offenders are between 250 and 1000 leva. For manufacturers and importers the fines are from 5000 to 15 000 levs.

Toys are in the top 3 in the list of dangerous objects that have been discovered and withdrawn from the market in the European Union in recent years.
