Easter approaches, anticipation builds for one of the most cherished Christian holidays celebrated in Bulgaria
71% of Bulgarians say it is necessary to investigate corruption at the highest political level, and 63% say that corruption at municipal level has to be investigated, said Alpha Research manager Boryana Dimitrova at a round table, Focus News Agency reports. She presented the results of a survey on corruption by polling agency Alpha Research and Transparency International Bulgaria. The results also show that 59% want investigation into corruption in the central administration. “There is a common perception of corruption that leaves none of the important systems of the state unaffected,” said Boryana Dimitrova, adding that the main suspect was political corruption. People with higher education, in active age, in the capital and major cities show 5-10% higher sensitivity on the matter. “Corruption is perceived as a mass phenomenon, as a common social structure of the public attitudes. A large part of Bulgarian population think not equally but similarly,” the sociologist said.
The survey also found that 41% of Bulgarians would not report corruption. Bulgarians would report corruption conditionally upon having confidence that their reports will be handled impartially and effectively, that their anonymity will be preserved and that those reporting will be protected, said Vanya Kashukeeva-Nusheva, Transparency International Bulgaria.
