Bulgaria: Shot Rosy Pelican Treated in Stara Zagora Local Rescue Centre

A rosy pelican shot by poachers has been taken to the Green Balkans’ wildlife rehabilitation centre in Stara Zagora, the centre said. The rosy pelican is listed in the Red Data Book as disappearing. The bird was rescued during the midwinter waterfowl census in Burgas more than a week ago. Pellets from airgun injured both wings of the bird and its body. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University in Stara Zagora is helping in the rescue.
