For three years phone scammers have taken about BGN 20 million from their victims. This was stated by Nova TV spokesman of the Prosecutor General Rumyana Arnaudova. This amount does not include the value of the given jewelery and precious items.

"For a three-year period, 20 million levs have gone to the hands of the telephone scammers, not including the value of the gold jewels and precious stoness. The average monthly amount is about 500 thousand BGN, ie. half a million go into the pockets of scammers, "she explained.

Yesterday, it became clear that an elderly woman from Sofia gave about 400,000 leva to phone fraudsters. This happened between June 2 and 6, with the pensioner being misguided that she was helping the police.

"This is the most successful scheme in recent years -  help the police to detain telephone fraudsters or perpetrators of other crimes. Often, this scheme is intertwined with the classic patterns of telephone fraud, namely money demand for treating a close relative. Often there is also an element of a threat, "said Chief Executive Officer. Inspector Zlatka Padinkova, Head of the Fraud Department of the National Police Directorate General.

According to her, fraudsters are becoming more and more creative. "We often give information on how the fraud is happening, but it often undergoes various modifications, and in fact it deceives the people we give advice to," she said.
