Parliament adopted at first reading higher fines and prison sentences for poachers. They were proposed by the United Patriot's parliamentary group with amendments to the Penal Code. The project provides for illegal catches in fishing waters with nets, use of explosives, etc. of the offenders to be fined from 200 to 1000 levs. At the moment the lower threshold is 100 levs. In the case of a second offense, the draft stipulates imprisonment of up to two years and a fine of BGN 500 to 2000, as well as deprivation of hunting rights.
