US President Donald Trump fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. In his place will be appointed CIA Director Mike Pompeo , Reuters reports.
For the CIA senior position, Trump nominated Gina Haspel, who is Deputy Director of the Intelligence Service. In fact, the news was reported by the president himself on Twitter.
"Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all! " said Trump on Twitter.
According to anonymous report by an official of the White House, the US president wants to have a new team ahead of planned talks with North Korea and various trade talks.
