Primary elections of political parties continue in France three months before the presidential elections.
On Monday, the biggest surprise came from the Socialists camp. The winner in the first round of the elections turned out to be Benoît Hamon, former Education Minister at the beginning of the presidency of François Hollande.
Hamon left the government and turned into one of the main critics of presidential policy, reported French media, cited by bTV.
Hamon is a symbol of the left wing of the socialist Party and is frequently accused of lack of realism in his bold proposals.
On Sunday, Hamon will face Manuel Valls, former French PM, who has to deal with the liabilities left over from the term in office of François Hollande. His programme is far more liberal than that of Hamon and it sets new challenges to the French left.
The dilemma is whether to vote for the defender of social values and ideas Hamon, who, however, stands no chance against the right and the far-right, or vote for Valls, who has experience in governing the country and could possibly withstand the competition of Republican François Fillon or far-right leader Marine Le Pen.
