Bulgaria: Germany Curbs Benefits for ЕU Nationals

Germany has amended the benefits arrangements for citizens of other EU member stattes, Bulgarians and Romanians included, according to DW.

Nationals of EU countries will only been given benefits after having spent five years in the country, acording to DW.

This includes the so-called Hartz IV benefits, paid to unemployed residents and low-income workers and received by a vast number of Bulgarians and Romanians over the past years.

In 2014, Bulgarian and Romanian recipients of Hartz-IV numbered 83 082, drastically up from 2013's 45 260 recipients.

But the 2014 figure also bubbled over the course of 2015, with nationals from the two EU member states numbering 128 000 as of January of this year, German authorities say.
