Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has joined a call from the United Nations for adherence to the existing readmission agreements.

Plevneliev has made a statement at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York as he is attending the 71st annual session of the assembly.

He has hailed this year's UNGA activities as a historic chance for nations to agree on a common approch to migrant crises and to the differentiation between "refugees and economic migrants."

"Countries of origin, transit and destination should undertake joint action in the spirit of mutual support and solidarity," Plevneliev has said.
