Russia Claims Its Ship 'threatened to ram' US Ship in Sea of Japan
Russia says one of its warships caught and chased off a US Navy destroyer after it entered territorial waters in the Sea of Japan on Tuesday.
United States guided-missile destroyer Porter has arrived in the Bulgarian Black Sea port of Varna for a scheduled visit.
“The ship's operations in the Black Sea are meant to enhance maritime security and stability, readiness and naval capability with our allies and partners,” the U.S. Navy said in a statement.
The port visit (June 8-10) is part of Operation Atlantic Resolve meant to show U.S. support for NATO allies in Eastern Europe.
Porter, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.
