Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
The football club of CSKA Sofia claimed the Bulgarian Cup after defeating the team of Montana in the final played in Sofia on Tuesday.
The only goal was scored by Stanislav Malamov in the twelfth minute.
This was one of the most interesting finals in the history of the tournament as it pitted against each other a club competing in the third division of Bulgarian football and a team facing relegation from the top division.
CSKA was relegated from Bulgaria's top football division, the A Group, last season after its licence was revoked due to outstanding debts.
Despite its current status, CSKA was the clear favourite as it has not suffered a single defeat this season. It has achieved thirty victories out of 31 matches in the third division and has won all its encounters in the cup.
Montana is facing relegation from the A Group as it is currently occupying the last place in the standing.
As expected, CSKA claimed its twentieth cup and became the first team from the third division to win the tournament.
CSKA also came closer to its eternal rival Levski Sofia which has won the cup on 25 occasions.
A total of 35 000 spectators attended the final played at the Vasil Levki National Stadium in the Bulgarian capital, making it one of the best attended football matches in Bulgaria's recent history.
