Protesters against the newly approved Moldovan government broke into the building of the country's parliament on Wednesday.
The protesters led by the pro-Russian Socialist opposition stormed parliament only minutes after Moldovan MPs had approved a new pro-European government headed by Pavel Filip, deputy chairperson of the ruling Democratic Party.
The demonstrators accused the new government of being led by oligarchs and called for early elections as the new prime minister stated that he is to seek closer ties with the EU.
The previous government was ousted at the end of October last year amid a banking scandal in which USD 1 B disappeared from the country's banking system.
Since then a political crisis has ensued in Moldova with a third prime minister coming to office in less than a year.
The predecessor of Filip, Valeriu Strelet was ousted by a vote of no confidence in October, while the previous holder of the position Vlad Filat had been accused of accepting bribes of USD 250 M.
If the parliament had not succeeded in approving a government by January 29, the president would have had to dissolve the legislature and hold early elections.
