Bulgaria and the Euro: What Happens to National Monetary Sovereignty?
One of the most debated topics around Bulgaria’s upcoming transition from the lev to the euro is whether the country is giving up its sovereignty
English football team Portsmouth honoured retired Bulgarian striker Svetoslav Todorov by admitting him to the club's hall of fame.
The Bulgarian was one of four players to be admitted to the club's hall of fame together with Noel Blake, Dave Kemp and Billy Haines, who was honoured posthumously.
Todorov is best remembered for scoring the goal, which secured the promotion of Portsmouth to the Premier League in 2003.
In the 2002-2003 season, the Bulgarian scored a total of 26 goals, becoming the top goalscorer of Division One.
Unfortunately, Todorov then suffered a serious knee injury on the eve of the following season, which reduced the number of appearances in his remaining years at Portsmouth.
Toddy, as he was affectionately called, was a much-loved figure at the club, scoring a total of 33 goals in 83 appearances between 2002 and 2007.
The Bulgarian also played for three other English clubs - West Ham, Wigan and Charlton.
Todorov started his career in his hometown club Dobrudzha, before moving to Litex, where he became the club's all-time goalscorer in the Bulgarian top football division - the A Group.
Following his spell in England, Todorov returned to Litex before finishing his professional career in Ukraine as player of Hoverla.
He also recorded 41 appearances for the Bulgarian men's national team and scored seven goals.
At present, Todorov is coach of the Bulgarian national under-19 team.
