Sofia District Prosecutor's Office: Volen Siderov Wanted!
Volen Siderov has been declared for a nationwide search, the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office announced.
Lawmakers in Bulgaria are set to discuss a demand by the country's Chief Prosecutor on the immunity of nationalist Ataka party's leader Volen Siderov and of an Ataka member and MP, Desislav Chukolov.
On Tuesday, an ad hoc committee granted Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov's request to revoke the immunity of both lawmakers.
Tsatsarov demanded that Parliament take the step to allow Siderov and Chukolov's arrest on charges of hooliganism.
Neither Siderov nor Chukolov have given up on their immunity. They still have a deadline to do so until November 9 (14 days on from Tsatsarov's demand).
Parliament is now set to decide whether to change current immunity rules (internal rules of the legislature and not ones enshrined in a law) and shorten the deadline to 5 days.
In Siderov and Chukolov fail to renounce their immunity, this will prompt lawmakers to vote on the ad hoc committee's decision.
