GIPS JSC Marking Koshava Plant's 50th Anniversary before Miners' Day

Just days before miners' professional day on August 18, Bulgarian supplier GIPS JSC is celebrating on Thursday the 50th anniversary since its gypsum processing plant was set up in the village of Koshava near Vidin, Northwestern Bulgaria.
A concert is due on Thursday evening in Vidin's downtown Bdintsi square. Nikolina Chakardakova, a renowned performer of Bulgarian folk music, will be a special guest of the event, alongside folk ensembles from across the region.
GIPS JSC is the major supplier of raw materials for the cement industry and for the production of gypsum binding substances and aerated-concrete products. It manufactures gypsum-based and cement-based dry building mixtures, heat-insulation systems and primers.
The mine near the village of Koshava, 18 km northeast of Vidin, is the only underground gypsum deposit in Southeast Europe. By providing livelihood opportunities to thousands of households, it contributes to boosting employment in Northwestern Bulgaria, which is the EU's poorest region.
August 18, the assumption of St Ivan Rilski, was designated as the miners' professional day 111 years ago with a decree of Tsar Ferdinand, issued on the proposal of miners from the western mining city of Pernik.
