Ukrainian Woman Detained in Sunny Beach After Attempted Bribery of Police Officers
Bulgarian authorities found themselves grappling with a peculiar case involving a 60-year-old Ukrainian woman
Israeli Deputy Parliament Speaker Oren Hazan has organized crime links in Bulgaria, a story published by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) reads.
OCCRP cites on its website an investigation by its partner Bivol (run by Atanas Chobanov, who is Bulgarian).
According to the report, a hotel in the vicinity of the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach is connected with two organized crime groups.
Its first floor, where a casino is located, was owned in 2008-2013 "by companies owned and managed by Hazan’s father, Yehiel Hazan, and other family members".
Bivol argues there are "complicated" relations between Hazan and the Bulgarian enterprises.
Yehiel Hazan was formerly a member of the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, as his son is now.
In June, Oren Hazan came under fire from Israeli media outlets which ran reports about him being the manager of a Sunny Beach casino that allegedly provided prostitutes and hard drugs to clients. He has consistently denied this.
