Bulgaria's major political parties are to sign an agreement to declare they will not use Internet trolls to spread their messages more efficiently, an MP has announced.

"All parties agree. Next week there will be a ceremony to sign the document in Parliament," Antoni Trenchev, who is a lawmaker from right-wing Reformist Bloc, has told private national bTV station.

A discussion was held Tuesday titled Internet. Rules. Politics organized by Trenchev at which the vast majority of participants from political parties have voiced their readiness to tighten control of trolling activity.

Nearly every party in Bulgaria's Parliament has regularly been accused of paying for comments to be posted in media outlets, forums, and social networks. Though political leaders have repeatedly denied, there have been occasional episodes revealing the use of trolls to promote certain ideas.

Trolls are currently not subject to regulation, but some websites are putting into practice rules to mitigate their activity.

Estimates quoted by bTV suggest as many as 1000-2000 trolls are operating in Bulgaria.
