Bulgaria is now emerging out of its recent international isolation, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov noted at the opening ceremony of The Epic of the Thracian Kings at the Louvre in Paris.

From April 16, Thursday, visitors of the French Museum will be able to see 1628 artifacts including numerous possessions of Thracian King Seuthes III (died ca. 300-295 BC) which arrived from Bulgaria in March.

Many of the items will be on display in what was one the bedroom of King Louis XIV, "the Sun King". Apart from this, three other halls within the Richelieu Wing will feature items from the treasures. A life-size head of Thracian ruler Seuthes III, made of bronze with alabaster eyes (which are also covered with a layer of glass paste), will be the central piece and has already become something of a symbol for the artifacts.

At a ceremony attended by state officials, Borisov said the decision of the world-known museum to host the exhibition is a sign of respect for "Bulgaria, respect for what is being done, for the government, for ministers, for culture."

"By entering this building, were are entering the history of world culture and are recognized as a globally significant country in the cultural field," Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov told the Bulgarian National Television.

Deputy PM and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova, who was also part of the Bulgarian delegation attending the opening, added that Bulgarians should "rediscover the Bulgarian identity".

Though no expert reviews are yet available on the exhibition (which is to be available to Louvre visitors on Thursday), Bulgarian media outlets comment on the cultural event saying it could finally award Thracians with the recognition they deserve as an important part of the ancient civilization.
