All ten Lufthansa-operated flights between Sofia and Munich and Frankfurt are cancelled on Wednesday due to the announced 12-hour strike of the airline's pilots.
The German airline cancelled on Wednesday 750 out of its 1400 scheduled domestic and European, which is expected to affect 80 000 passengers, the Business Insider reports.
The announced strike of the pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) is going to affect short and medium haul flights on Wednesday and long haul flights on Thursday.
Lufthansa will offer flight alternatives via rebooking to affected passengers, the company's website informs.
Flights operated by Lufthansa's subsidiaries - Germanwings, Eurowings, Air Dolomiti, Swiss, Brussels Airlines, and Austrian Airlines are not going to be affected by the strike.
This is the 12th strike since April 2014, which is in response to Lufthansa's plans to change the pilots' transitional pension arrangements.
Lufthansa wants to remove the present arrangement, which provides that pilots can retire at the age of 55 and receive up to 60 % of their pay until they reach the statutory retirement age of 65.
According to estimates, the repeated strikes in 2014 cost Lufthansa EUR 232 M.
