Bulgaria: Kozloduy CEO 'Dismissed for Being Expert' Photo by BGNES

Discharged Kozloduy NPP Chief Executive Ivan Genov has explained the move with lack of political affiliation.

Genov was replaced by Dimitar Angelov as head of the nuclear power plant late on Thursday at the decision of the Bulgarian Energy Holding.

"The reason I was removed is that I am Ivan Genov. I am not a political person, I hold no membership in a party. I am an expert," Genov told public broadcaster BNT.

He denied that his work on the project with Westinghouse to build the plant's Unit 7 could be underpinning BEH's move.

Genov assumed the office after the government of Plamen Oresharski was formed in 2013. He also held the position in 2007-2009, but was replaced by Dimitar Angelov during the tenure of conservative GERB.

BEH cited a decision to reduce the strength of Kozloduy NPP's Board of Directors to be behind his dismissal.
