Caretaker Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov has said he is seriously concerned with the abduction of Estonian police official Eston Kohver on September 5, 2014.

In a statement, he has called the incident "a violation of international law on behalf of the Russian Federation".

The Foreign Ministry is calling on Russia to immediately release Kohver and secure his return to Estonia.

Kohver, 44 was captured on Estonian soil by Russian intelligence service FSB, with Moscow accusing him of "espionage" activities.

He could spend up to 20 years behind bars if found guilty, his Russian lawyers (the same who defended punk trio Pussy Riot) have claimed.
