Rear Admiral Georgi Motev took over from Lieutenant General Atanas Samandov as Commander of Bulgaria's Joint Forces Command, the Defense Ministry reported.

President Rosen Plevneliev decreed that Samandov be discharged from military service and join the reserve. Motev will hold the post on an interim basis.

The Joint Forces Command is a formation of the Bulgarian Army directly subordinated to the Chief of Defense. It is a structure tasked to plan and conduct operations within the territory of the country and outside it, and to carry out command and management on operational level in its capacity as a body responsible for the application of interoperability principle.
