Bulgarian caretaker Environment Minister Svetlana Zhekova has banned construction and installation works in the region of camping site Koral.
According to an order issued by the caretaker Environment Minister, construction works in the area would lead to the destruction of three types of dunes and six plant species.
Zhekova banned construction and installation works in the area of the Koral camping site to Iberdrola Inmobiliaria Real Estate Investments EOOD, Vitatur Invest AD, PGA Food EOOD, Prime Property BG REIT, and Coral Residence.
The ban was issued to prevent substantial negative impact on the environment and the nearby protected areas.
The measure was explained with the expiration of the permits for the approval of investment proposals, according to reports of Darik radio.
Zhekova explained Thursday that the companies had failed to evaluate the compatibility of the investment proposals with the regime of the protected areas, following amendments to environment legislation introduced in 2007.
She also noted that construction works in the area would lead to the destruction of three types of dunes, which had been placed under special protection under the Black Sea Coast Act, as well as six plant species placed under a special regime under the Biodiversity Act.
Zhekova informed that the ban would remain in force until the completion of the procedures required under the Environmental Protection Act and the Biodiversity Act and the entry into force of the administrative acts issued on the basis of the assessments.
Meanwhile, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva notified Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov about a number of construction permits issued for sites near the Koral beach
Zaharieva submitted Thursday a signal to the prosecuting authority about the legality of construction permits for 11 properties on the territory of the Tsarevo municipality and the subsequent confirmations issued by the chief architect of the municipality.
She insisted that the permits issued by the chief architect of the Tsarevo municipality be declared void due to serious flaws.
An inspection of Bulgaria's National Construction Control Directorate in August revealed that the permits and the subsequent approvals clashed with spatial planning legislation.
Out of a total of 18 permits, 9 were found to be in force, while the others had been canceled by court orders or expired, according to the press office of Bulgaria's Regional Development Ministry.
