The Bulgarian political analyst Evgeniy Daynov expressed his concern with the events in Rozovo village, where the local community expelled 17 Syrian refugees who had just settled.
"This incident did not surprise me, but angered me. This is a disgrace not just for Rozovo village, but for the whole Bulgarian nation. As a citizen of this nation, I too feel repelled", Prof. Daynov said in the morning bloc of Nova TV.
"I see the surfacing of fascism and xenophobia on a common level throughout the country. This is the result of being bombarded on television with different fascist rallies and politicians who explain how Syrians are cannibals who have come to eat our children", Daynov added.
According to the political analyst, this tendency puts Bulgaria at risk of "becoming like Russia", referring to its poor human rights record.
