Bulgaria's liberal party has condemned in a declaration the so-called Lukov march scheduled to take place in Sofia on February 15.
The declaration was read Tuesday in the Parliament by Lyutvi Mestan, leader of the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), mostly representing the Turkish minority in the country.
General Hristo Lukov was the commanding General of the 13th Division of the Bulgarian Kingdom's Army during World War I, and later a Minister of War. During the Second World War he was a great supporter of the Axis powers, particularly Nazi Germany.
Lukov was the leader of the right extremist Union of Bulgarian National Legions.
The neo-Nazi Lukov march has been taking place in Sofia each year since 2004 and is organized by the Bulgarian People's Union.
On Tuesday, Mestan reminded that according to the Bulgarian Constitution and Penal Code, the propaganda of fascist ideology is a crime and urged the police and the Sofia City Hall to ban the march.
"Such events can be assessed only as neo-Nazism and open mockery of historical truth and the memory of millions of victims of fascism. We remind once again of the permanent and principled position of DPS against xenophobia, anti-Semitism and ethnic and religious hatred as contrary to international law on protection of human rights," said Mestan.
DPS called on all other parliamentary groups to follow their example in condemning the Lukov march.
