Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova defeated world number 14 Roberta Vinci 6:3, 6:3 in the first round of the Qatar Total Open in Doha.
The Bulgarian, who is nearly 40 places below her opponent in the ranking, won the match in just 71 minutes. This was her first victory over Vinci in their 4th meeting.
Pironkova, who started from the qualifiers of the tournament, will next face Germany's Annika Beck, who is ranked 55th.
