Protesters in the Thai capital Bangkok are calling for a boycott of Sunday's parliamentary elections and vow to continue their demonstrations.
Following months of anti-government rallies, Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra made a decision in December to dissolve parliament and call new elections.
Demonstrators however, were not moved by this fact, rejecting the upcoming vote. They believe in the current system, Shinawatra's party would comfortably win the new elections.
The more radical fractions of the protest wish to take down the Prime Minister and set up a people's council, which would make changes in the electoral system, the CNN reports. They wish to see Thailand freed from the influence of the Shinawatra family.
Thailand has been plagued by major bouts of upheaval since PM Yingluck Shinawatra's brother Thaksin was toppled in a 2006 army coup that stirred conflict between the elite and the middle-class against Thaksin's power base in the countryside.
Ten people have been killed and over 500 wounded in political-related violence in the country since November.
