Military Budget Disparity Between Ukraine and Russia Deepens Despite US Aid Package
The US Congress has finally approved a long-awaited aid package for Ukraine, totaling nearly 61 billion USD, including military assistance
Russia’s second suicide bombing in 48 hours has prompted its foreign ministry to call for international solidarity in the fight against “terrorists”.
Russian officials now say 14 people died after an explosion on a trolley bus in the southern city of Volgograd on Monday.
It comes after Sunday’s suicide bomb attack on the city’s train station, which has now claimed 17 lives.
The country’s foreign ministry likened the bombings to attacks by militants in the United States and Syria.
It added: “We will not retreat and will continue our consistent fight against an insidious enemy that can only be defeated together.”
"A strike that was cynically planned on the New Year’s eve is another terrorist to attempt to open an internal 'front', to cause panic and chaos, and to trigger inter-confessional strife and conflicts in the Russian society.“
In the statement, Russia's foreign ministry did not blame any particular group but called for international solidarity in the fight against "an insidious enemy that only be defeated together".
Regional Governor Sergei Bozhenov said the bombings were a "serious test" for all Volgograd residents and all Russians.
The president of the International Olympic Committee has expressed full confidence that Russian authorities will deliver "safe and secure" Games in Sochi.
