Bulgarian professional sumo wrestler Kaloyan Mahlyanov, aka Kotooshu, who is very popular in Japan, has applied to be released from Bulgarian citizenship.

The information was reported Wednesday by the Bulgarian "Trud" (Labor) daily.

The reason is the prominent athlete receiving an invitation from Japan to become the country's national sumo coach.

Some time ago, Mahlyanov explained that in order to become coach, he needed Japanese citizenship and license. He has the chance to become the first European Sumo coach in Japan, writes the Bulgarian news agency BGNES.
