Roger Waters, the creative force behind Pink Floyd's legendary album "The Wall," has arrived in Bulgaria on a flight from Bucharest Wednesday evening.
The Wall is being built and will be 150 meters wide and 12 meters high on an area of 6 000 square meters.
It has been delivered by 150 tractor trailers and it will take several days to be put together by 300 people, already hired and working round-the-clock. The field and the track of the stadium are protected with special covers and all workers have insurance.
A puppet of the "Teacher" will hang above the 12-meter-tall Wall. The spectacular show will include monsters, flying aircraft, explosions, scarecrows, and of course the demolition of The Wall.
The surround towers for special effects will be a first in a show staged in Bulgaria.
The lighting and the sound are arriving Friday, during the day, on another 50 tractor trailers.
"The show is such a huge production that the team travels with two sets of equipment – as one is being dismantled, the other is already on its way to the next stop," says Ivan Nestorov, manager of Sofia Music Enterprises, organizers of the concert.
There is a special backstage, similar to a small town, with dressing rooms, bathrooms and a kitchen. Organizers have not yet received any special requests for food and drinks.
"They told us – give us a minivan and several people to do our shopping at a supermarket and the cooks will take care of the rest," Nestorov explains.
Before the show, Waters will rehearse with the 15 Bulgarian children who are going to sing with him "Another Brick in the Wall."
He will also visit the tomb of Major William Frank Thompson a British officer who acted as a liaison officer between the British Army and the Bulgarian communist and antifascist partisans during World War II.
Waters will also present for the first time before an audience a new song "The Ballad Of Jean Charles De Menezes." It tells the true story of a man shot by police in London over fears of terror attacks.
Water has concrete messages for the audience in every country he visits. The organizers have translated in English a number of "Bulgarian sayings," but Nestorov declined offering more details. He pledged that even those who think they know what to expect are going to be hugely surprised and amazed by the show.
Waters has already staged about 200 The Wall shows around the world.
