Bulgaria's Council for Electronic Media (SEM) will hear Monday the case against Bulgarian rapper Misho Shamara regarding an anti-Semitic comment he made during an interview for a local TV channel.

Misho Shamara shocked viewers by calling Bulgaria's ex-Finance Minister Simeon Diankov “Jewish vermin” during a interview for TV7 on July 31.

The recently formed Antigovernment Information Service, aiming to provide accurate and objective information about the ongoing anti-government protests in the country, referred the matter to the Council for Electronic Media (SEM), the body which supervises broadcasters in Bulgaria.

The rapper's statement was condemnded by the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom”, as well.

Sofia's Prosecutor office rejected approaching the case.

In an official letter to the media apologizing for his offending expression, Shamara declared that he will call for a meeting to apology in person to the Israeli Ambassador in Bulgaria as well as to the representatives of the Jewish community in the country.

Currently, Misho Shamara is supporting the Socialist-endorsed cabinet of Plamen Oresharski. The rapper is the face of the pro-government protests, having emerged as opposition to the ongoing anti-government protests, demanding the resignation of the Socialist-led coalition government.
