Bulgaria's special services should not be used to pressure citizens by snooping on them, stated Vladimir Pisanchev, the newly elected director of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (DANS).
After being elected to the post by Parliament Friday, Pisanchev briefly answered questions from the media, including his involvement in the notorious 2008 Galeria operation.
The so-called Galeria file included wiretaps of many Bulgarian politicians and journalists, and was supervised by Pisanchev, who at the time was a director of a DANS unit.
"I have no moral qualms with Galeria. I was ordered by the DANS director and had to obey," stated Pisanchev Friday.
"As DANS head, I will order no such operations. I firmly believe Galeria was unpurposeful," added he.
