Poland has refused to grant political asylum to the former advisor to US Special Forces, Edward Snowden.

Snowden is still in the transit area of the airport in Moscow, Russia, and is wanted by Washington for espionage, the Bulgarian BGNES news agency reported.

"We received a request that does not meet the formal conditions for asylum. But even if it was in line with them, I would not have given a positive recommendation," Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski answered to a journalist's question on Twitter.

The "Wikileaks" site informed Monday that Snowden has deposited applications for asylum in 21 countries, including Russia, Iceland, Ecuador, Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, India, China, Germany and France.

However, Snowden withdrew the application to stay in Russia after he was informed about the conditions that the Russian president Vladimir Putin had.

Putin said on Monday that Snowden can stay in Russia if he "no longer harms the United States."

"At the moment Snowden does not want to stay in Russia," Press Secretary to the President in Russia Dmitriy Peskov said.

On June 6, 2013, the Guardian and the Washington Post broke news that America's National Security Agency (NSA) was tracking millions of European's data.

The leak by former NSA officer Edward Snowden caused international furor.

Based on the Snowden's findings, Washington Post points the tech giants Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, YouTube, PalTalk, AOL and Yahoo as participants in the program called PRISM.

The most recent scandal flared after Snowden's leak revealing the US was targeting and spying on a number of EU and non-EU allies.
