Bulgarian President Says No to Easing Full Smoking Ban

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has reiterated his firm stance against easing the existing full smoking ban in enclosed public spaces.
Plevneliev told reporters on Wednesday that there would be “no logical explanation” for a potential reexamination of the ban.
“We should set an example as a truly European country; we should be responsible for the future of the next generations,” the President declared.
He reminded that he has had a clear stance on the issue since he assumed office in 2012.
Over 60 000 Bulgarians have joined an online petition in favor of keeping the existing full smoking ban in enclosed public spaces in the country.
The petition, which was initially launched in December 2012, was revived last week by widespread reports that the new Socialist-led government would ease the ban that was introduced one year ago.
On May 28, the nationalist Ataka (Attack) party proposed legislative amendments that would ease the full smoking ban.
