More than half of Bulgarians believe that the country's prosecuting authority must demand that former Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, be stripped of his immunity as lawmaker, according to a poll conducted by Sova Harris.
The poll has been assigned by the Bulgaria Pressa (Press) daily. It has been conducted between May 24 and 28 among 1 000 Bulgarians.
56% of the respondents say that Chief Prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov, must press charges against Borisov over the unauthorized wiretapping scandals and particularly the infamous "Misho The Beer" recorded conversation.
The tapes revealed in early 2010 that Borisov had called Customs Chief, Vanio Tanov, with an order to immediately pull out all customs agents from Mihail Mihov's AKA Misho the Beer factory over an agreement that he made with the businessman to not have the Customs inspect his beer plant.
68% approve Tsatsarov's decision to strip from immunity former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, while 12% oppose it.
The Sova Harris poll has also shown that 52% of Bulgarians approve the decision made by the Chief Prosecutor's office to seize a total of 350 000 questionable ballots on the eve of the May 12 early general election.
52% disapprove of the Court claim to void the elections, submitted the by formerly-ruling center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB. 23% have said that new snap elections must be held in the country.
46% believe forming a Cabinet of experts, led by former Finance Minister, Plamen Oresharski, as PM, was a good idea.
According to Sova Harris' results, currently the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, enjoys the highest approval rate – 30%, followed by GERB with 26%, the liberal ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedom, DPS – 14%, and the far-right nationalist Ataka party – 10.5%.
The party of former EU Commissioner, Meglena Kuneva, which did not pass the 4% threshold to win Parliamentary seats, is fifth with 8.4%.
If the elections were to be held now GERB and BSP would end with a 21.6% tie, according to the poll.
